Bison continue to move up in latest national coaches' poll

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 18 in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III coaches' Top 25 poll run by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Bison (19-0) collected 47 points and are sandwiched between No. 17 Saint Vincent College (19-2) and No. 19 Coe College (19-2). The highest the Bison have ever been ranked by the WBCA is No. 16.

The Bison are one of five undefeated teams left in Division III with the others also ranked in the coaches' poll including new No. 1 Thomas More College (21-0). The other undefeated squads include No. 4 Babson College (21-0), No. 11 Denison University (21-0) and No. 13 Greensboro College (21-0).

Lebanon Valley (20-1), the nationally ranked team the Bison beat earlier in the season, moved up one spot to No. 9 as it collected 129 points. The Dutchmen's only loss this season was against Gallaudet in overtime 80-69 on November 28.

Gallaudet is the highest ranked team in the national coaches' poll still not ranked in the Top 25 media poll. The Bison are the first team receiving votes with 71 points and would be ranked No. 26 if counted out among those teams receiving votes. The team at No. 18 in the media poll is St. Norbert (18-2), who is not ranked or receiving votes in the coaches' poll.

The second installment of the NCAA Division III regional rankings were released this week and the Bison remain fourth in the Atlantic Region behind Kean (19-3, 16-1 in region), Mount St. Mary's (N.Y.) (18-2, 18-2) and William Paterson (18-3, 17-3).

Gallaudet is also ranked nationally in several NCAA Division III categories including; 11th in rebound margin (11.5), 13th in steals per game (14.5), 20th in scoring margin (19.1), 21st in scoring defense (51.1 points per game) and 22nd in field-goal percentage defense (32.8 percent). The NCAA rankings are thru games on February 6, 2011.

About the polls
The USA TODAY/ESPN board of coaches is made up of nine head coaches at Division III institutions. All are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly.
