WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team got into the giving spirit this week when the team volunteered their time at D.C. Central Kitchen this past Monday to help prepare food for the homeless in the District of Columbia.
Bison players and managers were in-charge of cutting up various vegetables for three hours to be used for salads and other meals for those in need.
"This was a great experience for our team. Some players never have had an experience like this before," said Bison senior Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio). "It was great to see our team bond together to help those in need. We look forward to doing this again."
D.C. Central Kitchen was founded in 1989 and has prepared 25 million meals for low-income and at-risk neighbors in Washington, D.C. They dish out 5,000 meals a day to nearby homeless shelters, transitional homes and nonprofit organizations.
