Seniors push Gallaudet past Penn St.-Berks to end the season on a winning streak

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team finished the season with a 69-50 victory over Penn St.-Berks in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game at the Field House. The Bison end the season winning five of their last eight games and will take a two-game winning streak into next season.

Senior Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) recorded her 11th double-double of the season as she scored a career-high 28 points as she made 12-of-14 shots (85.7 percent) and grabbed 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals on Senior Day. Fellow senior Amy Bachtel (Columbus, Ohio) got the start and made the most of it as she scored a season-high 11 points, brought down seven rebounds and passed out three assists.

Gallaudet (7-18, 5-13 NEAC South) went into halftime up 29-19 after the Bison shot 40 percent from the field.

In the second half, Penn St.-Berks (9-15, 8-10 NEAC South) narrowed the lead at the 16:27 mark down to four, 33-29. The Nittany Lions were within six at the 10:51 mark after Kellie Wilson made a 3-pointer. Gallaudet went on a 12-0 run from there to break open the game at 58-40. Sophomore guard Claire Tucker (Middletown, Md.) was responsible for half of those points in that stretch. Tucker finished with 10 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Freshman Augusta Schriver (Middletown, Md.) finished with nine points, nine rebounds and two assists.

Nicole Young-Trapp led Berks with a double-double as she scored 12 and grabbed 12 rebounds, with two assists and one block.

Bachtel played in 88 games in her four years as a Bison. She scored 247 points, grabbed 248 rebounds, had 69 assists and 38 steals.

Stergio, after one season, ends her GU career with 375 total points in 25 games played. She grabbed 225 rebounds, passed out 64 assists, 50 steals and made eight blocks.
