GU's Lindsay Stergio garners All-NEAC first team honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2013-14 women's basketball all-conference awards and Gallaudet University senior forward Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) was named to the first team. This is Stergio's second All-NEAC honor and Gallaudet's fourth straight year of having at least one player on one of the three all-conference teams, which consist of five players each.

Stergio, a 2012-13 All-NEAC second team honoree, started all 25 games this past season for the Bison and averaged 18.9 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game and one steal per game. She finished the regular-season with 453 points, 238 rebounds, 73 assists, 25 steals and 12 blocks. Stergio netted a career-high 29 points in the first game of the season, a 73-66 loss at the hands of Alvernia on Nov. 16. Nationally, she ranks 42nd in the country for points per game (18.9) and 30th in double-doubles (13). Stergio led the Bison in five different statistical categories and ranks in the Top 10 for eight different NEAC statistical categories. Stergio scored double digits in 24 games, 13 of those she reached 20 points or more and had 13 double-doubles. She was also honored as an NEAC Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the week on Feb. 10.

The Bison concluded its 2013-14 regular season under second-year head coach Stephanie Stevens with a 14-11 record and 11-5 mark in the conference and hosted College of St. Elizabeth in the first round of the NEAC tournament.

Wells College senior Ashley Roser was named NEAC Player of the Year for the second straight year, while Morrisville State College freshman Jordan Anderson was named NEAC Rookie of the Year. Lancaster Bible College head coach Doug Helsel was named NEAC Coach of the Year by his pears.
