WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University athletics department was proud to host the Washington Mystics today as the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team held a two and a half hour practice in the Field House.
Gallaudet women's basketball coach Stephanie Stevens helped to coordinate the visit when the team reached out to her a few days ago. Stevens had the chance to observe practice run by Mystics head coach Michael Thibault. After practice Stevens had the chance to catch-up with former University of Maryland standout Crystal Langhorne and Emma Meesseman, who is hard of hearing, from Belgium. Stevens served as the Coordinator of Recruiting Operations with the nationally ranked Maryland women's basketball team prior to taking over the Gallaudet program.
Stevens crossed paths with the Washington Mystics back on June 27 when she served as a coach with the National Deaf Girls Basketball Camp, as the campers and coaches attended the Mystics home game with the Phoenix Mercury.
The Mystics (11-13) are en route to New York City where they will take on the Liberty (10-13) Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Madison Square Garden.
