LEXINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team continued tournament play at the Washington & Lee Tip-Off tournament Sunday as they competed against the host Washington and Lee University. The Bison fell to the Generals, 65-52, in the consolation game.
The Bison (0-2) began that game with a quick 3-pointer by senior guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) giving Gallaudet an instant lead, however this was the only time the Bison had the lead in the game. After trading buckets with the Bison for most of the first half, the Generals (1-1) managed to maintain a four-point lead going at halftime, 33-29. The Bison came out strong in the second half as junior guard Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.) had six consecutive points (eight total) cutting the General lead to two points. However, Gallaudet's offense became stagnant as the Bison were scoreless over four minutes nearing the end of the second half.
Senior forward Lindsay Stergio (Montville, Conn.) recorded her second consecutive double-double with team-highs 16 points and 13 rebounds and five assists. Junior forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) contributed on the defensive end as she grabbed eight rebounds. Senior guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) had six points. Freshmen Jazzmin Washington (Orlando, Fla.) and Isabella Hasty (Fort Worth, Texas) came off the bench and pitched in five and six points, respectively.
The Generals were led by Wesleigh Vick and Shelbi Hendricks who each had double-doubles in points and rebounds. Jackie Clifford had a game-high 18 points.
The Bison will travel to Hood College on Thursday, Nov. 21, for a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
