MINNEAPOLIS – Gallaudet University senior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) was named to the 2015-16 D3hoops.com women's basketball All-East region third team on Monday. This is Gage's first selection to the D3hoops.com All-Region team and the fourth time in program history.
Former Bison standouts Lindsay Stergio was named to the 2013-14 All-Atlantic region third team while Easter Faafiti was a two-time D3hoops.com All-Atlantic region first team honoree (2009-10, 2010-11) and was the 2009-10 D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
Gage is one of two players from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) honored as Lancaster Bible College senior forward Aubrey Folger, the two-time reigning NEAC Player of the Year and an All-East second team selection last season, was named to the All-East region first team this season.
Gage, an All-NEAC first team selection this season, led all of NCAA Division III in steals (124) and was second in steals per game (4.59). Gage leads the team in scoring (19.1 points per game), assists (124), steals (124). She is second on the team in blocks (12) and third on the team in rebounds (150). Gage also leads the NEAC in steals (4.7 per game), is second in total points (497), fourth in points per game, and seventh in scoring percentage (48.2).
This season, Gage scored in double digits in 22 of 27 games, with four games of 30 or more points, including her career best 38 points in the game against SUNY Cobleskill on Jan. 16. Gage finished her career in 11th place on the school's all-time points leaderboard with 981 points.
The Bison finished the season in the NEAC tournament semifinals with a 15-12 overall record and 13-7 conference mark.
Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The men's All-American team will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's championships, and the women's will be announced in the week following the Division III women's semifinals.
This is the 15th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 19th annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
There were 776 nominations for men's and women's basketball all-region consideration. Sports Information Directors (SID) in each region voted on the teams. Schools were contacted multiple times to make sure players were nominated by their respective SID. The All-Region teams include three teams of five players (two teams if the region has 40 or fewer teams), a player of the year, rookie of the year and coach of the year. The Northeast region has four teams due to the amount of schools in its area.
