GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Feb. 22 and Gallaudet University senior Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) was selected as the Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This is Gage's first NEAC Player of the Week honor this season and the second of her career.
The senior guard did it all for the Bison while competing in four conference games in seven days, putting up across-the-board averages of 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 4.5 steals and 1.0 block per game during the 3-1 week.
She particularly shined during the three victories that helped the Bison secure a spot in the NEAC Tournament, beginning with game highs of 25 points and six assists to go along with eight rebounds, two steals and a block in a 73-57 victory over Bryn Athyn College last Tuesday. She again led all players with 22 points, six assists and four steals in an 87-61 win over Penn St.-Berks, where she also finished with seven rebounds. She then closed the week with a near triple-double while playing just 27 minutes during a 97-65 victory over Cazenovia on Senior Day, as she finished with 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting to go with four boards and game highs of eight assists and nine steals.
Gage's 18 steals on the week left her as the national leader across all of Division III in total steals (117) on the year for the Bison, who closed the regular season with a 13-7 record in NEAC play.
This is Gallaudet's first NEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor this season
Gallaudet will play host to Bryn Athyn College in the NEAC tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Field House.
