GU women's basketball defeats Hollins, 67-51

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team bounced back with a 67-51 non-conference win Thursday night over Hollins University in the Field House on Padden Court.

Gallaudet (4-5) jumped out to a 26-10 start in the first quarter and took a 43-18 lead into halftime. The two teams scored 14 points in the third before Hollins (1-7) outscored the Bison by nine, 19-10, in the fourth.

The Bison were paced by junior Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) and freshman Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) who scored 19 and 17 points, respectively. Junior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) added 13 points.

Hollins was led by Keyazia Taylor's 12 points and Chesslyn Owens' 11 in the loss.


  • Seniors Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) and Kori Koss (Delavan, Wis.) led the team with eight rebounds
  • Shysh had a game-high five steals
  • Hudson and Beldon passed out a game best six assists

Gallaudet travels to Bryn Athyn College (2-5, 1-1 NEAC) on Saturday, Dec. 9, for a 3 p.m. conference game.
