Gallaudet's Hannah Neild and Sabina Shysh earn CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Basketball honors

WASHINGTON  - The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), were released and Gallaudet University seniors Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) and Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) were named to the District 2 first team for Division III. The pair will now be added to the national ballot for the chance to earn Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, March 13.

Neild and Shysh become the first Google Cloud Academic All-District® women's basketball team honorees to represent Gallaudet, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students.

Neild and Shysh are two of the five selections on the Division III - District 2 team as they are joined by The College of New Jersey sophomore Shannon Devitt, Johns Hopkins University senior Alexis Scholtz and Thomas More University senior Madison Temple.

Neild, an education major, has the top GPA (3.98) among District 2 honorees and one of the best GPA's in Division III. Neild was named the 2018-19 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year and made a second straight appearance on the all-conference first team. Shysh, an accounting major, boasts a 3.79 GPA and was selected to the All-NEAC second team.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. District Two is comprised of Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

CoSIDA began this program in the 1950's, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports and across all divisions with these elite CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. Currently, CoSIDA honors Google Cloud Academic All-Americans in 12 sports.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed per sport and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
