WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team rolled to its sixth straight win here Saturday with an 84-72 win over Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest. The game also marked Senior Day for three Bison along with Alumni Madness day as hundreds of GU alumni came back to support the buff and blue.
Gallaudet (13-8, 10-2 NEAC) led for the majority of the game and extended its lead to 20 points in the fourth quarter over Cazenovia (5-14, 4-9 NEAC). GU led 19-18 after the first quarter and took a 43-32 lead into halftime.
Prior to the start of the game, the Bison women's basketball program recognized their three seniors; Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.), Kelli Barnes (Cliffside, N.C.) and Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.); along with their families and friends.
The senior trio did not disappoint as they combined to score 63 of GU's 84 points. Neild tallied a game-high 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five steals and one block. Shysh added 28 points, eight boards, three assists and two steals. Barnes chipped in six points, two boards, three assists and one block.
Sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in the 12-point win.
Cazenovia had four players in double figures led by forward Alexis Tubbs' 19-point game. The Wildcats made 10 3-pointers as five came in the fourth quarter.
- Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) was held to eight points, eight rebounds and two assists
- Sophomore forward Juliana Bahan (Frederick, Md.) grabbed six rebounds and three assists
- All of Neild's rebounds came on the defensive end
- Gallaudet held a 48-38 edge in rebounds
- GU scored 36 points in the paint
- The game saw six lead changes and two ties
GU is off this week until the Bison hit the road and travel to New York at the end of next week. The Bison, the top team in the NEAC South Division, will next face Keuka College (14-4, 9-1 NEAC), the second-place team in the NEAC North Division, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m.
