KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team came up short, 68-60, to SUNY Poly here Sunday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship game hosted by Keuka College.
Gallaudet (17-10), the No. 3 seed, pulled to within three points, 49-46, with 7:03 left in regulation as senior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) made a jumper. The top-seed Wildcats went on an 11-4 spurt over the next four minutes to take a 60-50 lead.
SUNY Poly (22-5) held on from there and will receive the automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III tournament that will be announced Monday afternoon.
Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) led the Bison with 22 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and passed out five assists. Shysh finished with a double-double in her final career game with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) was held to a season low nine points and seven rebounds.
SUNY Poly was led by Most Outstanding Player Kiersten Leos led all scorers with 29 points in the win. The Wildcats led 33-26 at the half.
