Gallaudet advances to NEAC women's basketball championship as Bison defeat Keuka, 60-54

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team will advance to its second North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship since it joined the conference in 2010-11.

Gallaudet (17-9) edged out Keuka College (19-6) here Saturday in the NEAC semifinal with a 60-54 victory.

The Bison doubled up the Wolves in the fourth quarter, 16-8.

Senior guard/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) led all-scorers with 26 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Neild, the NEAC Player of the Year, was a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line.

Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior forward Kelli Barnes (Cliffside, N.C.) added seven points and two blocks while sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) compiled six points, six assists, five steals and three rebounds.

Keuka was led by guard Sam Laranjo's 18-point game as she passed out three assists, made four steals and grabbed three rebounds.

The two teams were knotted at 13 after the first quarter and the Wolves led 32-27 at the half.

GU, the No. 3 seed, will go up against top-seed SUNY Poly in Sunday's championship game at 2 p.m. The winner of the NEAC championship will receive an automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament. Gallaudet last appeared in the NEAC championship game during the 2010-11 season when the Bison hosted Keuka and lost, 50-46.
