GU drops NEAC opener on the road to Penn St.-Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team began conference play here Wednesday night and fell to Penn St.-Abington by six points, 75-69, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener for both teams.

Gallaudet (2-3, 0-1 NEAC) outscored Penn St.-Abington (4-1, 1-0 NEAC) in the fourth quarter by three points, 26-23, after it trailed 34-30 at the half and 52-43 after the third quarter.

Senior guard Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) led all-scorers with 22 points as she made 8 of 18 shots from the field, including four 3-pointers to go with five rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) tallied a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, a season high, as she added three steals. Sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) scored 10 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter. She passed out seven assists and tallied four rebounds, one block and steal. Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) scored seven points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the loss.

Penn St.-Abington had five players in double figures led by guard Shayna Rodriguez's 18-point game to go with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block.
