GU begins new year with road loss to Generals

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team began the new year here Saturday afternoon and lost 96-46 to Washington & Lee University in a non-conference game.

Gallaudet (5-7) outscored Washington & Lee (8-5) in the fourth quarter 20-15 but the damaged was done by the Generals in the first half.

W&L outscored Gallaudet 20-0 in the final six minutes of the first quarter after it led 6-4 early on. 

The Generals used another 23-0 run in the second quarter to increase its lead to 49-6 and led 57-11 at the half.

The Bison surpassed their first half total in the third quarter with 15 points as junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) scored nine of her team-high 15 in that 10-minute span.

In the fourth quarter, senior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) led the Bison with eight points as she matched Hudson with 15 points in the game.

Sophomore forward Juliana Bahan (Frederick, Md.) got the start, up front, and grabbed a game-high and career best 13 rebounds.

W&L had five players in double figures led by guard Taylor Casey's 22-point game in 16 minutes played. 


  • Sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) added eight points and two assists
  • Sophomore forward Shakeedra Hubbard (Starkville, Miss.) grabbed eight rebounds

Gallaudet jumps back into conference play next week with a road North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at College of Saint Elizabeth (3-3, 2-0 NEAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. The Bison are 2-1 in NEAC play this season.
