WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team fell to Bryn Athyn College, 3-1, here Saturday night in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener for both teams at Hotchkiss Field.
The two teams were stuck in a defensive battle in the first half as they went into halftime scoreless. Gallaudet (4-2, 0-1 NEAC) scored the game's first goal just 40 seconds into the second half.
Freshman Hailey Montoya (Mentone, Calif.) sent a cross in from the right side to left of the goal where junior Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) booted in her third goal of the season. The shot got past Bryn Athyn goalie Allie Warren (seven saves) as GU celebrated the 1-0 lead.
The game slipped away from Gallaudet in a nine-minute stretch where the Lions roared back and scored three straight goals as emotions began to boil up, on both sides.
Gallaudet was outshot 13-6 in the second half. Bryn Athyn scored three goals on five shots during that nine-minute stretch. Midfielder Kristen White led the scoring with one goal and one assist.
- Sophomore goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) finished with eight saves
- Freshman forward Danielle Wheeler (San Jose, Calif.) led the Bison with six shots (three on goal)
- The Lions held a 16-12 shot advantage and a 8-2 edge in corner kicks
Gallaudet will travel to Wilson College (0-7, 0-1 NEAC) on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 4:30 p.m. for a conference game.
