WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team dropped its home opener, 10-0, to Hood College here on a sun-filled Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field.

Gallaudet (1-1) was forced to play defense for nearly the entire game as a deep and talented Hood team pressured the Bison defense throughout the game. The Blazers (1-0-1) had six different goal scorers as the team fired 49 shots.

Sophomore goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) had a busy afternoon as she had to make 20 saves. This is the third time in her career she has posted 20 or more saves in a game.

Hood got on the scoreboard with three quick goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. Gallaudet's defense settled down after the initial surge and only trailed by three at the half.

In the second half, Hood scored a quick goal and later tagged on extra goals in the 84th and 86th minutes to cap a 6-0 second half. Three different Blazers had two goals in the game.

  • Junior Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) had both of Gallaudet's shots
  • Levesque made 10 saves in each half
  • Hood took eight corner kicks
  • The Blazers held a 15-8 edge in fouls

Gallaudet will host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Wednesday night (Sept. 6) at 7 p.m. under the lights at Hotchkiss Field.
