GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Oct. 8 and Gallaudet University junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) earned Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance last weekend as GU defeated SUNY Poly for the first time in program history.
Levesque locked down the Wildcat offense for the game's final 55 minutes after GU trailed 1-0 in the first half. She made two big saves in the second half and totaled seven in the match as Gallaudet rallied to win 2-1. She is third in the NEAC for saves with 79 through 11 games.
Keuka College junior forward Emily McGuigan was picked as the NEAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week after an eight-point performance in a 10-0 win against College of Saint Elizabeth. She recorded a natural hat trick, within a 16-minute span, in the first half before adding her fourth goal in the final minute of play. McGuigan ranks third in the conference with 15 goals and 34 points.
This is Gallaudet's first NEAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors this season. This is Levesque's first NEAC weekly honor in her career. In fact, this is Gallaudet's first NEAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award in six years. Kara Gulvas was the last Gallaudet women's soccer player to earn the NEAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award on Oct. 15, 2012.
Gallaudet (5-6, 3-4 NEAC) will host SUNY Cobleskill (4-8, 1-5 NEAC) in a conference game on Saturday, Oct. 13, at noon.
