Bison tripped up on the road at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team lost, 3-1, to Cazenovia College here Sunday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match at a chilly Christakos Field.

The two teams scored goals early in the first half before Cazenovia (11-4-1, 7-2-1 NEAC) netted a go-ahead goal in the 76th minute and an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to put the game away.

Gallaudet (6-8-1, 4-5-1 NEAC) is still in the conference playoff hunt but sit in seventh place, currently, and need a win in its last NEAC match on Wednesday to have a chance to move up. The top six teams in the conference standings will make the playoffs. 

Sophomore midfielder Sharon Castillo (Dallas, Texas) scored her second goal this season off an assist from senior midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) in the 19th minute to tie the match at 1-1. 

Cazenovia scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute on a Cassidy Rattray goal. 

The teams remained tied at 1-1 at the half even though Cazenovia held a 12-5 advantage in shots.

In the second half, Gallaudet had limited scoring opportunities and only got off one shot. Cazenovia logged 16 shots and scored twice off the foot of Michael Breeze in the 76th minute and Rattray, again, in the 83rd minute.

Junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made 12 saves in the loss.

Gallaudet will close out the NEAC regular-season schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 24, on the road against Lancaster Bible College (6-6-2, 5-3-2 NEAC) at 5 p.m.
