Bison strike twice in second half to defeat SUNY Cobleskill

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team picked up a key North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win here Saturday as the Bison shut out SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0, on a sunny but cool afternoon at Hoy Field.

Gallaudet (6-6, 4-4 NEAC) netted two second-half goals after the two teams were held scoreless in the first half.

The Bison came out of halftime fired up and focused on getting on the scoreboard. GU wasted little time as senior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) passed the ball to senior midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) who booted the ball into the net in the 48th minute. The goal was the fifth for Shysh this season.

Mallach had a hand in GU's second goal as she scored in the 89th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) to close out the game.

Mallach led the Bison with nine shots (six on goal) while sophomore midfielder Sabrina Hernandez (Ashland, Va.) took three shots (two on goal).

Junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) recorded her third shutout of the season as she made nine saves. Levesque's counterpart, Korah Witherell made 10 saves for the Fighting Tigers in the loss.

Cobleskill's Rebecca Bruno posted a team-high four shots (three on goal) while Addy Lawson tallied three shots (two on goal).

Gallaudet travels to Arlington, Va., to play against Marymount University (3-9-1) in a non-conference game on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m.
