WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team was handed a 7-0 loss by Keuka College, the top team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), here Sunday afternoon at a warm and sun-drenched Hotchkiss Field.
Keuka (7-3, 6-0 NEAC) scored early and often as Emily McGuigan netted a hat trick on six shots on goal.
The Bison (4-6, 2-4 NEAC) had a scoring chance in the 34th minute when senior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) took a shot, off a pass from senior midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.), that went wide of the net. Mallach tried again, three minutes later, off another pass from Shysh but Keuka goalie Jessica Pegg made one of her four saves.
The Wolves took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Mallach, who led the team with five shots, had another chance to put GU on the scoreboard when her rocket of a shot hit the crossbar in the 81st minute.
Shysh and freshman midfielder Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) also fought hard upfront for GU as they recorded one shot on goal each.
Junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made 13 saves in the loss.
Keuka scored two meaningless goals late, and to add insult to injury the seventh goal came with seven seconds left, in the match.
- Keuka outshot Gallaudet 30-8 and held a 12-2 edge in corner kicks
- Mallach delivered a total of five shots for the Bison, with two on-goal
GU is off until Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Bison make a trip to Marcy, N.Y., to face SUNY Poly (1-7-1, 1-5 NEAC) in a conference match.
