Bison strike first but fall in double overtime to Notre Dame (Md.)

Gallaudet women's soccer defender Deltona Markel

BALTIMORE - Senior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) scored Gallaudet University's first women's soccer goal of the season here on a sultry Tuesday afternoon against Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Gallaudet (0-2) lost its lead early in the second half and surrendered the game-winning goal in the second overtime period as the Gators (2-0) celebrated a 2-1 victory.

Mallach's unassisted goal came in the 12th minute of the non-conference game as the Bison jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Gators.

Notre Dame (Md.) chomped back in the second half with a quick goal by Meghan Conner off an assist from Loren Pardoe just 41 seconds into the new frame.

The host Gators outshot the Bison 7-3 in the second half but the teams' defenses were stout as neither team could gain the lead in regulation.

The teams went to overtime and then a second overtime when Conner netted her second goal on the day to end the game at the 101:53 mark.

Junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) finished the game with three saves. Her counterpart, Trinity Pfieffer saved eight of nine shots on goal, including six straight to end the contest.
