WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team closed out its 2018 season with a 9-0 shutout against Trinity Washington University under the lights at Hotchkiss Field on homecoming weekend Saturday night.

Gallaudet's seniors shined on Senior Day as the duo of forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) and midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) combined to scored seven of the nine goals. The pair also assisted on two goals each. Mallach, the all-time leading scorer in Gallaudet history, left her mark as she scored five goals and two assists in her final game.

Mallach scored three times in the first three minutes and added a fourth before the five-minute mark. Mallach then assisted sophomore midfielder Sabrina Hernandez (Ashland, Va.) in the seventh minute before being lifted. Shysh scored the first of her two goals off an assist from junior defender Deltona Markel (Buda, Texas) in the 18th minute.

Gallaudet (7-9-1) overwhelmed an undermanned Trinity (0-10) squad, who only had 10 players suit up, and scored six first-half goals and played respectful in the second half as the Bison ran down the clock by passing the ball around.

Markel scored her first career goal in the 49th minute as she blasted home a loose ball, that was deflected off a shot by Mallach. Markel then assisted Shysh on a goal, for the second time in the game, in the 57th minute. Mallach capped the scoring in the 62nd minute with her final goal in a Bison uniform off a Markel assist.

Prior to the start of this evening's match, the Gallaudet women's soccer program sent its seniors out in style with a ceremony to honor their commitment and dedication for the last four years. The players, their family and friends were recognized on the field with special senior plaques, balloons, and personal gifts. Balachandran is a four-year letterwinner and saw action in 43 games and made 17 starts.
