Bison drop season opener to Washington Adventist

TAKOMA PARK, Md. - The Gallaudet University's women soccer team was shutout, 6-0, in the season opener here Friday afternoon against Washington Adventist University.

The Shock (2-0), a NAIA program, scored twice in the first eight minutes of play. Jennifer Santos scored back-to-back goals in the fifth and seventh minutes of play to give the host an early 2-0 lead.

Washington Adventist scored three more times before halftime as the Shock led 5-0.

Senior forward Brittany Mallach (Milton, Ontario) led the Bison (0-1) with seven shots, four of which were on goal. Freshman midfielder Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) added three shots, two shots on goal, in her buff and blue debut with women's soccer.

The Shock scored a sixth and final goal in the 63rd minute as Cristina Reyes recorded her second goal of the game.

Sophomore goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss.

GU will travel to Baltimore on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to take on Notre Dame of Maryland University in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
