Wetzel breaks Gallaudet's triple jump record at Jim Taylor Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Freshman Hannah Wetzel (Fremont, Calif.) jumped her way into the Gallaudet University record book here Saturday at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University. There were no team scores kept at this invitational.

Wetzel had the top jump of 10.31 meters in the first flight of the women's triple jump. Her jump breaks Gallaudet's old school mark of 10.09 meters set by Eva De Porcel back on May 1, 1993, at the Mason-Dixon Championships in Salisbury, Md.

Wetzel finished third in the second flight in the long jump (4.85 meters) and placed 10th in the high jump as she cleared 1.50 meters.

Freshman Quanchen Warmack (Danville, Ky.) was GU's top sprinter in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.44 seconds.

Junior Anyia Brown (Wilmington, Del.) was second in the first section of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.66. She also posted a team best 30.27 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Sophomore Taylor Nguyen (Ballwin, Mo.) was fourth in the first section of the 800-meter run (3:06.91) and ninth in the first section of the 1,500-meter run (6:34.58).

Freshman Sierra Pratt (Katy, Texas) was 10th in the first section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase (15:53.11).

In the field, sophomore Carina Dominguez Can (Hillsboro, Ore.) was fifth in her flight in the discus with a top throw of 20.35 meters.

Sophomore Nia Ralston (Danville, Ky.) was fifth in her shot put flight with a top toss of 7.01 meters. Freshman Tyler Mitchell (Perrysburg, Ohio) was close behind in seventh (6.91 meters) and Dominguez-Can was eighth (6.31 meters).

Mitchell was GU's top thrower in the hammer throw with a toss of 19.68 meters to place ninth in her flight.


  • Junior Jakkisha Smith (Dallas, Texas) was sixth in the first flight in the triple jump with a jump of 9.26 meters
  • Ralston was 10th in the first hammer throw (18.84 meters) flight
  • Senior Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) was 16th in the first flight of the high jump (1.35 meters)

The Bison will host The Gallaudet University Invitational on Saturday, April 20, at the Thomas O. Berg Track.
