GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The second day of the Battlefield Classic at Gettysburg College concluded Saturday and the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team lost both matches against tough in-region opponents. GU dropped its first match, 3-1, to Carnegie Mellon University and finished the two-day tournament with a straight set loss against Muhlenberg College.
The Bison (1-3) won the first set against Carnegie Mellon, 25-22, but couldn't keep the lead as the Tartans (4-0) won the next three sets; 10-25, 21-25, 7-25. Senior Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the buff and blue in kills (14) as well as digs (19), to record her first double-double of the year. Junior Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) made 17 digs and junior TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) passed out 37 assists.
Gallaudet hung tough with the Muhlenberg Mules (3-1) but lost in straight sets; 21-25, 22-25, 17-25. Frowick was held to 12 kills and the team totaled 10 block assists as sophomore Giuletta Maucere (Frederick, Md.) recorded half of them. Hoglind and junior Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) had eight digs each.
Frowick was named to the all-tournament team for a second year in a row.
The Bison will next be seen at home for a scrimmage against a team of Gallaudet Alumni on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Field House gym.
