Gallaudet picks up two wins at Bridgewater Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team came away from the Bridgewater Invitational here this weekend with two wins in four matches played. The Bison picked up a win on Friday night and an additional win on Saturday evening against the host Eagles.

Gallaudet defeated N.C. Wesleyan College in straight sets (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) on Friday evening to snap a five-match losing streak. The Bison lost their first match on Friday to regional power Washington & Lee University, 3-1, as the Generals won 20-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23.

The Bison (3-6) lost their first match on Saturday to Averett University, 3-1, as Gallaudet one the first set 25-20 before Averett won the next three (25-23, 25-21, 25-21). After a few hours of rest the Bison regrouped and took down Bridgewater (Va.) in straight sets (25-18, 25-17, 27-25).

In four matches this weekend, senior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the way with 56 kills on 133 attempts (.316 hitting percentage) to go with 58 digs, three block solos and three block assists. Junior Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) added 42 kills, 10 service aces and 16 digs while junior Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) added 28 kills, nine service aces, 35 digs, two block solos and five block assists upfront. Junior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) passed out 145 assists in four matches (10.3 assists per set) and tallied five service aces, six block assists and 20 digs this weekend.

Gallaudet returns home to prepare for Stevenson University, who will come to the Field House on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m.
