READING, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team earned another straight set victory Saturday evening against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Cazenovia College winning 25-17, 25-9, 25-21. The Bison have yet to drop a set in five straight matches.
The Bison (17-10, 10-0 NEAC) won the first two sets quickly as they only had three attack errors in both sets. In the final set, Gallaudet struggled to pull away from the Wildcats (1-17, 1-8 NEAC) and had five attack errors in the set allowing Cazenovia back in the match. GU kept its composure as and held on to win, 25-21.
Junior Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) led the Bison with 15 kills and only two attack errors on the night. Junior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) had an impressive match as she recorded all of the team's 39 assists, plus she added three service aces. Senior Julia Wolff (Belleville, Ontario) had eight kills and two blocks on the night. Junior Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) and freshman Kylene Etkie (Austin, Texas) served well as they posted five and three service aces, respectively.
GU will continue the NEAC Crossover Weekend, hosted by Penn St.-Berks, tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 19) when it plays NEAC rival Keuka College (10-12, 8-1 NEAC) in the first match of the day at 10 a.m. The Bison and the Wolfpack, formerly known as the Storm, are battling for the top-seed in the conference tournament, which is right around the corner. GU will complete play against SUNY Cobleskill (10-13, 1-7 NEAC) at 2 p.m.
