WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team fell to regional power Stevenson University in straight sets, 3-0, here Thursday night in the home opener before a rowdy crowd of 230.
Gallaudet (3-7) got off to a slow start as the Mustangs (11-1) took the first set, 25-13. The Bison tried to rally back with the support of the home crowd but Stevenson outside hitters Kristen Brooks and Lauren Weaver stopped the late push with 12 and nine kills, respectively, as the Mustangs took the last two sets, 25-15 and 25-16.
Senior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led Gallaudet with seven kills, 12 digs and two blocks (one solo) on the night. Junior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fisher, Ind.) passed out 18 assists while junior libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) contributed to the defense with a team-high 14 digs.
Stevenson, who received votes in this week's Division III national poll, has won 10 straight matches.
The Bison hit the road to enter North Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend as they travel to Wells College to face the host Express, Bryn Athyn College, Morrisville State College and SUNYIT. The Bison will go up against Wells and Bryn Athyn on Saturday, Sept. 20, starting at 4 p.m.
