WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team collected another straight set victory Wednesday night against College of Wooster; 25-18, 25-19, 25-21. This is the 14th straight set win for the Bison this season as they have won 18 of the past 19 sets played.
The Bison (15-10) won the first two sets quickly with a strong service game (five service aces). In the first set, freshman libero Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) and junior Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) had two service aces each, and junior Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) served an ace to win the set 25-18. The Bison quickly took the lead in the second set as Thomas and Perkins both each added two more service aces to their stat sheets.
In the final set, Gallaudet struggled with their serving game, giving the visitors from Ohio it's first lead of the night, 6-5. The set was close throughout until a service ace by freshman Kylene Etkie (Austin, Texas) put the Bison back in the lead at 22-21. Etkie served the next three points, serving out the game to win 25-21.
Senior Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) was back on top of her game as she led the Bison with 14 kills and only three attack errors, giving her a .344 hitting percentage. Junior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) had an impressive night, setting 34 of the team's 35 assists and had a service ace in the second set. Sophomore Giuletta Maucere (Frederick, Md.) had eight kills on the night while senior Julia Wolff (Belleville, Ontario) and Perkins both had seven. Thomas led the night in digs (10) and Morris was behind her with seven digs and added five kills to the team total (41).
Gallaudet will next host Lancaster Bible College for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Dig Pink Night in the Field House at 7 p.m.
