Gallaudet will face Stockton University in first round of NCAA Divivison III women's volleyball championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team (23-12) will travel to Galloway, N.J., to face regional host Stockton University (30-4) in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III women's volleyball championship on Friday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. on the Stockton campus.

The Bison earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after going undefeated in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship tournament this past weekend. The Bison defeated Lancaster Bible College, Wells College and SUNY Polytechnic Institute in the three-day conference tournament as the Bison won their sixth straight NEAC championship. The Bison hold a 2-10 all-time record in their 10 appearances in the NCAA tournament. This is the seventh time GU has appeared in the NCAA tournament under head coach Lynn Ray Boren, who is now in his 11th season.

Stockton claimed its eighth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) championship with a 3-0 win over Montclair State to earn the NJAC's automatic bid. The Ospreys are making their eighth straight appearance in the NCAA tournament, 11th overall, and reached the 30-win mark for the third time in school history. Stockton is 3-10 all-time in NCAA tournament matches. Stockton has faced two teams that made this year's NCAA tournament field, both in this regional, and split those matches against Cabrini (W, 3-1) and Eastern (L, 3-0). The Ospreys have won their last five matches in a row.

Stockton is one of the eight regional hosts. The other first round matches at Stockton will feature Stevenson (28-7) vs. Randolph-Macon (25-7) at 12:30 p.m., No. 6 Christopher Newport (29-2) vs. Hunter (23-13) at 3 p.m. and Cabrini (25-9) vs. No. 16 Eastern (28-7) at 5:30 p.m. followed by Stockton-Gallaudet. The winners will advance to Saturday's second round which begins at 2:30 p.m. and the regional final on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Gallaudet looks to ride the momentum from the NEAC tournament and try to advance past the first round for the first time since 2006 when the Bison lost to the eventual national champion, Juniata, in the regional final. The Bison have gone up against three other tournament teams, two in this regional in Christopher Newport and Stevenson and lost both matches by the scores of 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. Gallaudet and Stockton have no common opponents this season.

The quarterfinal round will begin on Nov. 19 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., with the semifinals and finals continuing through the weekend. The championship will be on Nov. 21.
