GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Sept. 8 and Gallaudet University swept the NEAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week honors. Senior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) earned her first NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor while junior Giuletta Maucere (Fishers, Ind.) took home NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career.
Hoglind, the senior captain, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic after tallying 172 assists, 31 digs and a team-most eight serve aces to lead the Bison to a 4-0 start to the season. Hoglind averaged 11.47 assists across 15 sets and dished out at least 38 assists in all four wins to pace the Bison offense, including a season-high 53 assists to go along with 12 digs in a 3-2 win over York (Pa.) College Saturday.
Maucere led the Bison defense after recording 12 blocks in 15 sets during the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic to help Gallaudet record a pair of straight-set wins while finishing play 4-0 overall. Maucere had at least one solo block in all four matches en route to a team-most six during the tournament, while also assisting in six others for an average of 0.80 blocks per set. Maucere totaled five blocks in a pair of straight-set wins over both Penn St.-Altoona and Curry last Friday, before matching that total in a 3-1 win over Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday. In addition to her block party up front, Maucere also provided some offense by adding 28 kills behind a .404 attack percentage.
These are the first NEAC honors of the season for the Gallaudet women's volleyball program.
The Bison will travel to Towson, Md., on Thursday, Sept. 10, to take on the Goucher College Gophers at 7 p.m.
