WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team won its first home game of the season on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink night in the Field House. The Bison defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University in straight sets; 25-13, 25-14, 25-16.
The Bison (12-5) took the lead early in the first set as the Gators (7-6) spiked the ball into the arms of junior Giuletta Maucere (Fishers, Ind.) and back to the floor on the Gators' side for Gallaudet's first point of the night. GU led Notre Dame the entire first and second sets and allowed for the Gators to score the first point of the third set. The lead was short-lived as GU quickly reclaimed the lead. The night ended on a service ace from junior Daisy Jo Robinson (Faribault, Minn.).
Senior middle hitter Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) led the Bison with nine kills and three blocks (two solo), followed by sophomore Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) with eight kills and a team best 11 digs as well as two service aces.
- Senior setter TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) had 28 assists and two service aces
- Gallaudet served up eight service aces
- Freshman Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn) had the second most digs (nine)
- Freshman Tessa Lewis (Frederick, Md.) added seven kills
The Bison will host the ninth annual Worthington Classic this weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. A total of 16 matches will be played on two courts during the two-day tournament.
