GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its conference student-athlete of the week awards for the week of Oct. 17 and Gallaudet University's Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.), junior and captain of the women's volleyball team, was selected as NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
Thomas led the Bison to a 3-1 week, which included three conference wins and a match against nationally ranked opponent, Mary Washington University, with totals of 54 kills, 45 digs an six service aces to average 4.7 points per set. Thomas shined bright in the three conference wins, including a season-high 26 kills to go with 13 digs in a 3-1 win over Wells last Sunday. The double-double was her 13th of the season and second of the weekend, as she also posted 17 kills and 12 digs in a straight-set win over Keuka on Saturday. Thomas is now second in the conference in kills (325), kills per set (3.61), points (3.86) and points per set (4.3) for the Bison who improved to 9-1 in the NEAC and 14-13 overall.
Penn State Abington's Isabel Hoch was selected as the NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the week for the second straight week after accumulating 75 digs and leading the Nittany Lions to a 2-1 week in conference play.
This is Gallaudet's third NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor this season and Thomas' third honor.
Gallaudet will travel to Newport News, Va., on Tuesday, Oct. 18, to face nationally ranked Christopher Newport University (17-7) at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. The Captains are currently ranked No. 18 in Division III. This will be the second straight week the Bison have faced a nationally ranked team.
