Thomas named NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Sept. 19 and Gallaudet University's Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) earned Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance last week. 

The junior outside hitter smacked 60 kills on a .415 hitting percentage to go along with 12 aces, 55 digs and five blocks through five matches for the Bison. Thomas' hitting percentage jumped to .467 a four conference matches, as she helped the six-time defending champion Bison go 3-1 to open NEAC play. She tallied double-digit kill totals through those four matches as well, including totals of 14, 10 and 11 in 3-0 sweeps of Morrisville, SUNY Cobleskill and Wilson, respectively. Thomas also doubled-up with 16 digs in the win over Cobleskill, where she also had six aces en route to recording at least one ace in all four NEAC matches.

Penn St.-Abington sophomore libero Maddi Richard was selected NEAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week as she tallied 79 digs in a 3-1 week for the Nittany Lions.

This is Gallaudet's first NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors this season.

Gallaudet will host the 10th annual Worthington Classic this Friday through Saturday as eight teams will play 16 matches in two days. The Bison begin the tournament against Rutgers-Newark at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23.
