GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – For a second consecutive year, Gallaudet University was picked No. 1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's volleyball preseason coaches poll released Wednesday. The six-time defending NEAC champions tallied eight first-place votes and 160 points in the 14-team preseason poll.
Gallaudet finished last season with a 23-13 record and 10-2 mark in conference play en route to its sixth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
SUNY Polytechnic Institute was edged out by the Bison for the top spot as the Wildcats garnered five first-place votes and accumulated 157 points. Wells College was third with one first-place vote and 147 points.
The Bison begin the season on Sept. 2 on the road in the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College. The first match of the 2016 campaign is against Carnegie Mellon University at 5 p.m.

The preseason poll rankings were conducted by the NEAC women's volleyball coaches, with each coach ranking out all teams but their own using a staggered points system (13 points for a first-place vote, 12 points for second, etc.). No self-voting was allowed. This is the second year the NEAC has held preseason polls and they will now become a staple of all 18 conference-sponsored sports moving forward.
