Gallaudet sweeps NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for Oct. 16 and Gallaudet University swept the honors. Senior Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) earned her third Women's Volleyball Player of the Week this season while junior Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was picked as the Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Thomas, a senior outside hitter, led the Bison to a 3-1 week that included a trio of victories against NEAC opponents. Thomas tallied 39 kills, 38 digs, 13 service aces and four block assists in four matches on the week. Her best showing of the week included 13 kills, eight aces and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Penn State Abington.

Clay recorded eight solo blocks and 10 block assists across four matches last week. In a 3-1 victory over SUNY Poly, Clay had her best game of the week with 10 blocks (five solo). Currently, the junior middle hitter ranks third in the NEAC with 60 total blocks on the year.

This is Gallaudet's fifth NEAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors this season. This is the eighth NEAC weekly honor for Thomas in her career while this is Clay's first conference award.
