GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – For a third consecutive year, Gallaudet University was picked No. 1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's volleyball preseason coaches poll released Wednesday. The seven-time defending NEAC champions tallied 12 first-place votes and 168 points in the 14-team preseason poll.
Gallaudet finished last season with a 21-16 record and 11-2 mark in conference play en route to its seventh consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
Morrisville State College was second with 135 points and one first-place vote. Wells College (127) edged out SUNY Poly (124) by three points while the Wildcats tied Penn St.-Berks (124). SUNY Poly claimed the fourth spot due to earning the other first-place vote and holding a higher ordinal number of points.
The Bison begin the season on Sept. 1 on the road in the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College. The first match of the 2017 campaign is against St. Mary's (Md.) College at 5 p.m.

The preseason poll rankings were conducted by the NEAC women's volleyball coaches, with each coach ranking out all teams but their own using a staggered points system (14 points for a first-place vote, 13 points for second, etc.). No self-voting was allowed. This is the third year the NEAC has held preseason polls.
