Trio of seniors honored on Senior Day during homecoming

WASHINGTON - It was a festive evening in the Field House as Gallaudet University's homecoming weekend kicked off with a Bison women's volleyball tri-meet with University of Scranton and Lebanon Valley College.

Gallaudet (14-15) lost in straight sets to Scranton (31-2) but the Bison didn't make it easy on the Royals, who won 25-23, 25-16, 26-24. GU was neck-and-neck with Lebanon Valley (14-11) as the evenly matched teams had to go to four sets to determine the winner. In the end, the visiting Dutchmen won 25-21, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22 before over 500 fans. Scranton defeated Lebanon Valley in straight sets (25-21, 25-12, 25-23) in the middle match.

Senior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) recorded 15 kills and 21 digs in the loss to Lebanon Valley. She had 11 kills and 10 digs against Scranton. Senior middle hitter Giuletta Maucere (Valley Village, Calif.) recorded a combined 10 kills and five blocks in the two matches. Sophomore Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) had five aces against Scranton and 14 digs vs. LVC.

After the conclusion of the final match, Gallaudet head coach Lynn Ray Boren recognized his three seniors Maucere, Thomas and Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) on Senior Day.


  • Junior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) made 38 combined digs
  • Junior Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) made five blocks to go with nine digs against LVC
  • Sophomore Farrah Harmount (Union City, Calif.) had five aces and 19 digs between the two matches
  • GU went 3-4 during its seven-match homestand

Gallaudet will hit the road on Tuesday, Oct. 24, for a non-conference match at Goucher College (4-15) in Towson, Md.
