CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team began North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play here Thursday night at Wilson College and won in straight sets (25-11, 25-9, 25-20).
Gallaudet (5-5, 1-0 NEAC) jumped out early on Wilson (0-6, 0-1 NEAC) and took the first two sets easily before being pushed in the third set. The Bison pulled away in the third by securing the final points but only after Wilson knotted the set late.
Senior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) led the way with nine kills and three service aces while sophomore outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) added five. Freshman Kameron Kinast (Austin, Texas) made her first collegiate start at setter and passed out 28 assists. Junior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) led the team with 10 digs.
Wilson's Laury Jean-Baptiste led the Phoenix with five kills and 10 digs.
- Freshman Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) matched Thomas with three service aces
- Schmidt added two block solos
- GU posted a .923 kill percentage in the first set (12-for-13)
- The Bison had 13 service aces and 11 service errors
Gallaudet remains on the road and will travel to Morrisville, N.Y., for two matches on Friday, Sept. 15, against Geneseo and Morrisville State College.
