Bison split second day of Battlefield Classic as GU defeats Penn St.-Altoona

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2018 season here Saturday on the second day of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College.

The Bison (1-3) defeated Penn St.-Altoona in four sets, 3-1, in their fourth and final match of the weekend. GU dropped the first set 22-25 before the buff and blue rallied to win 25-21, 25-20 and 25-11. Junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) led the Bison with 19 kills and 12 digs to record the double-double. Senior Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added 13 kills, three block solos and eight block assists. Freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 38 assists and made 14 digs. Senior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) added a team-high 22 digs and six assists in the win.

Earlier in the morning, Gallaudet went up against a tough McDaniel College squad and lost in straight sets; 14-25, 14-25, 15-25. Daniels led the Bison with nine kills, six digs, three block solos and one block assists. Giuntoli passed out 19 assists and made 16 digs while Fuechtmann added 20 digs.

GU will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., on Wednesday, Sept. 5, to face Eastern Mennonite University in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
