Gallaudet sweeps NEAC crossover Saturday in New York

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team traveled north to play against SUNY Poly and SUNY Cobleskill in two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matches Saturday and came away with two conference wins.

Gallaudet (6-7, 3-0 NEAC) dropped the first set, 22-25, to SUNY Poly (4-11, 2-2 NEAC) to begin the day but didn't drop another set the rest of the day. The Bison took the next three sets against 25-12, 25-14, 25-17. In the second match, blanked the Fighting Tigers 25-17, 25-21, 25-15 to complete the sweep.

Sophomore middle hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) made a team-high 14 kills and secured a double-double with the same number of digs. Junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) matched Lewis with a double-double of her own with 13 kills, 12 digs and three blocks. Senior middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added five kills and five blocks while junior outside hitter Tessa Lewis (Frederick, Md.) recorded 12 kills, five digs and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) made a team-high six blocks and added five kills.

In the second match against SUNY Cobleskill (1-10, 0-4 NEAC) it was Daniels and Tessa Lewis leading the way with 10 kills each. Freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 23 assists and a match-high six aces. Junior Farrah Harmount (Union City, Calif.) made 13 digs in the win.

GU begins a busy week on Wednesday, Sept. 26, with a road NEAC match at Penn St.-Abington at 7 p.m. The Bison will play six matches in a four-day span starting on Wednesday.
