Gallaudet clips Seahawks in straight sets

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team showed great energy Thursday night in a spirited Field House as the Bison dispatched St. Mary's College of Maryland in straight sets; 25-20, 25-17, 26-24.

Gallaudet (8-7) was powered up front by junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) and sophomore outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.). Daniels posted a double-double with 13 kills and 21 digs to go with three blocks (one solo). Lewis tallied eight kills, eight digs and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Tessa Lewis (Frederick, Md.) added eight kills and one block.

In the back, senior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) came up with 22 digs while freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 32 assists in the win.

St. Mary's (11-6) was led by Chanel Lewis' 12 kills and Mia Griffiths' 23 assists and 10 digs.

  • Senior middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) recorded five kills and one block solo
  • The Seahawks served up seven aces

Gallaudet will next host its annual Worthington Classic tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 28) through Saturday, Sept. 29. The Bison will go up against Ramapo College of New Jersey at 2 p.m. and Dickinson College at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
