YORK, Pa. - On the second day of the Spartan Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team lost twice, in straight sets, to Elizabethtown College and Haverford College.
The Bison (2-7) started the day with a 11-25, 21-25, 17-25 loss to Elizabethtown (2-6). GU almost won its first set of the weekend against Haverford but fell 22-25, 9-25, 19-25 to complete the two-day tournament with an 0-4 record.
Junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) led the Bison with a match-high 11 kills and sophomore middle hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) added seven kills. Freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out a team-high 23 assists and three service aces. Junior defensive specialist Farrah Harmount (Union City, Calif.) tallied a team best eight digs. Senior middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the way upfront with five blocks (two solo) in the loss.
Haverford (2-5) had its hands full in the first set against Gallaudet but held on to win 22-25. The Fords rolled in the second set, 9-25, before they completed the sweep in the third set, 19-25.
Junior outside hitter Tessa Lewis (Frederick, Md.) made five kills, Daniels added four kills and 11 digs, Clay recorded four kills and three blocks (one solo) and Giuntoli tallied 17 assists in the loss..

GU will host St. Mary's College of Maryland (3-4) in the home opener for the Bison on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
