Bison salvage NEAC split on Saturday with win over Keuka

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team completed the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover weekend hosted by Lancaster Bible College with a split here Saturday afternoon. Gallaudet defeated Keuka College in straight sets after it lost 3-1 to Wells College.

The Express (10-9, 5-2 NEAC) held the Bison (11-11, 5-2 NEAC) to one set win in the four-set match. Wells took the first two sets 20-25 and 28-30 before Gallaudet managed to fend off the Express in the third set, 26-24. Wells closed out the match with a fourth-set win, 25-16.

Junior outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs to go with three service aces. Senior middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) contributed 11 kills and five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) tallied nine kills, three blocks and one ace. Freshman setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 32 assists in the loss.

In the second match, Gallaudet returned with a vengeance and proceeded to shut out the Wolves. Keuka (9-13, 5-2 NEAC) stayed close to GU in the first match before the Bison won 25-19. Gallaudet held the Wolves at bay in the second and third sets as the Bison posted identical 25-16 scores.

Karita Lewis led the Bison with 10 kills, seven digs, two aces and one block solo. Daniels (12 digs) and Clay (three blocks) recorded eight kills each. Giuntoli passed out 31 to go with five digs and two blocks.

GU plays at Shenandoah University in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
