WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead here Wednesday night against The Catholic University of America in a non-conference match in the Field House. GU took the first set 25-23 before it dropped the next three sets; 21-25, 16-25, 13-25 as the Cardinals won 3-1.
Gallaudet (4-17) recorded 15 kills in the opening set, the highest total for the match. Junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with 17 kills (career-high) and 14 digs for a double-double to go with two aces. Freshman Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) added 11 kills (career-high), three block solos, two aces and two digs. Freshman Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) had 37 assists while freshman Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) made a match and career-high 24 digs.
Catholic (13-8) was led by Josephine Morrill's 18 kills, Patricia Martinez's double-double (11 kills, 22 digs) and Maria Gonzalez's double-double (35 assists, 20 digs).
This is the second time in five days these two teams faced each other as the pair met in the Worthington Classic 5th/6th place match last Saturday where the Cardinals won 3-0.

GU will travel down to St. Mary's City, Md., on Friday, Oct. 4, to take on the St. Mary's College of Maryland (4-12) at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match.
