WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Gallaudet University women's volleyball snapped a five-match losing streak here Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match. Gallaudet (5-19, 2-2 NEAC) turned around and dropped a close 3-2 set to Elmira College (8-12).
Junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with 14 kills in the 25-12, 25-22, 25-15 win over Penn College. Freshman Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 24 assists while freshman Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) made 10 digs. Sophomore Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) served up five of GU's nine aces.
Gallaudet jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Elmira as the Bison won the first set, 25-21. The Soaring Eagles won the next two sets 25-20 and 25-14 to take a 2-1 lead. The Bison forced a fifth set after they won the fourth set, 25-23. In the fifth and final set, Elmira hung on to win 15-12.
Lewis led the Bison with a double-double (15 kills, 11 digs) and three of GU's 12 aces. Bingham passed out 25 assists and Upchurch made 12 digs and three aces.
Elmira defeated Penn College, 3-1, to complete the tri-meet.

Gallaudet returns home to host The College of Wooster (7-11) in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
