ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team headed south on Friday afternoon to face St. Mary's College of Maryland in a non-conference match in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletic and Recreation Center Arena. GU dropped the first two sets before it won the third set, 27-25. The host Seahawks won the fourth set to win the match, 3-1 (19-25, 16-25, 27-25, 13-25).
Gallaudet (4-18) struggled with its attack percentage (0.02) throughout the match. Freshman Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) led the Bison with career best totals of 10 kills and 15 digs to record her first double-double. Freshman Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) recorded six kills, one block solo and one block assist while fellow freshman Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 27 assists. Junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) had a team best 19 digs, two aces and one block solo.
St. Mary's (5-12) snapped a five-match losing streak with the win. The Seahawks were led by Ellyse Sutliff's double-double (13 kills, 10 digs) and five assists while Emily Benedict made 29 digs and Fatima Bouzid passed out 28 assists and tallied 11 kills.

GU (1-2 NEAC) will head north to Williamsport, Pa., tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 5) to face Penn College (1-13, 0-3 NEAC) in a conference match and Elmira College (6-12) in a non-conference match at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
