GU completes second day of Stevenson Tournament

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Gallaudet University completed the Stevenson University women's volleyball tournament here Saturday afternoon in the Owings Mills Gymnasium. The Bison got swept by Stevenson University, 15-25, 13-25, 12-25, and lost, 3-1, to Dickinson College 12-25, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25.

Gallaudet (1-11) faced the Red Devils for the second time in two weeks after Dickinson swept the Bison at the Battlefield Classic back on Aug. 31. Junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with 14 kills, 22 digs, two service aces and one block assist. Fellow junior Elina Rubinshteyn (Austin, Texas) tallied 11 kills while freshman setter Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 32 assists. Sophomore Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) made 16 digs and three assists in the four-set match.

Dickinson (6-3) was led by Emma Lange and Morgan Biggs who had 16 and 15 kills, respectively, in the win.

In the morning, Stevenson (8-0) rolled to the straight-set victory with a .355 hitting percentage and eight service aces. Lewis and freshman middle hitter Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) had seven kills each. Perry added one block solo. Rubinshteyn tallied five kills and Bingham passed out 15 assists in the loss.

Dickinson defeated Salisbury, 3-0, and Stevenson beat the Sea Gulls (8-2) in five sets, 3-2, in the other matches on Saturday in the Stevenson Tournament.

Gallaudet returns home to host Lancaster Bible College (3-7) on Thursday, Sept. 19, in the conference opener for both teams at 7 p.m. in the Field House.
