2019 Gallaudet women's volleyball schedule released

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball program and head coach Lynn Ray Boren has recently released the 2019 schedule. Boren is entering his 15th season as head coach and finished the 2018 season with a 17-17 record, 8-3 in conference as the team reached the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) semifinal round where the Bison lost to Morrisville State College.

GU begins its season on Friday, Aug. 30, on the road at the annual Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa. The Bison have kicked off their schedule at the Battlefield Classic for the past 10 seasons. GU will go up against Messiah College, McDaniel College, Elizabethtown College and Dickinson College.

Gallaudet will host two different tournaments this season. Its first tournament, Gallaudet Tournament, will be held Sept. 6-7 in the Field House. GU will begin its home schedule with matches against Shenandoah University and Virginia Wesleyan University on Fri., Sept. 6. The Bison turnaround and face University of Lynchburg and Saint Vincent College on Sat., Sept. 7. GU will then make several trips to the Baltimore area the following week to face Notre Dame of Maryland University (Sept. 10) and participate in the Stevenson Tournament (Sept. 13-14) where they will face Salisbury University, the host Mustangs and Dickinson, once more.

The conference schedule will get underway on Thu., Sept. 19, against conference foe Lancaster Bible College. Three days later, Gallaudet will travel to Penn St.-Harrisburg, who rejoins the NEAC after being in the Capital Athletic Conference for several years, as the Bison face the Lions plus go up against Eastern Mennonite University.

GU returns home to play a mid-week match against Christendom College before the Bison host the 13th annual Worthington Classic, an eight-team tournament on Sept. 27 and 28. Gallaudet will face Penn St.-Abington and SUNY Cortland on Sept. 27 before going up against Marymount (Va.) University on Sept. 28 along with a fourth match later in the day. The other participants in the tournament include Bethany (W.Va.) College, The Catholic University of America, Christopher Newport University and York (Pa.) College.

The month of October begins with the Bison hosting the Cardinals from nearby Catholic University (Oct. 2) before traveling to St. Mary's (Md.) College (Oct. 4) and Penn College (Oct. 5) where they will also face Elmira College. GU returns home for a mid-week match against The College of Wooster (Oct. 9) before a conference Saturday showdown with SUNY Poly and Cobleskill St. in Lancaster, Pa., on Oct. 12. Gallaudet will make the short trip to Frederick, Md., on Thu., Oct. 17, to play Hood College in a non-conference match. GU continues its travels to upstate New York to face Wells College and Keuka College on Oct. 19 in Keuka Park, N.Y. Gallaudet returns to the Field House for Homecoming weekend as the Bison play host to Cazenovia College and Morrisville State College on Senior Day on Fri., Oct. 25. GU will close out October on the road in Towson, Md., at Goucher College on Oct. 30.

Gallaudet wraps up its NEAC schedule on Sat., Nov. 2, at Penn St.-Berks before the conference tournament begins days later.

The NEAC tournament quarterfinals will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The NEAC tournament continues with the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 9, followed by the championship on Sunday, Nov. 10. Gallaudet has hosted the NEAC championship tournament three times (2012, '13, '14) since joining the conference in 2010. The NCAA tournament will start the following week.
